About

The person who builds it is the person who maintains it.

I'm Adam Sparks. Sparkstone is my one-person software studio in Portland. I build the systems local businesses actually run on, and then I stay on to keep them running.

Who I work with

Medical and dental practices, law firms, and specialty contractors around Portland. The work usually starts in one of four places:

How it works

We start with a call. If it's a fit, I scope the work in writing so you know what you're getting before anything gets built. You deal with me the whole way through, not an account manager and a rotating team.

After launch, I work on a monthly retainer. Software isn't finished when it ships: forms change, staff turn over, integrations break. The retainer means the person who knows how your system works is still the one answering the phone.

Everyone should have the freedom to build software they’re proud of without sacrificing joy, balance, or humanity.

What I bring to it

Fifteen years of building software, most of it on systems that had to keep working after launch. I work in the open where I can: the tools I've released are on the open source page, and I write up the projects worth learning from on the blog.

I care about software you own. Your data stays yours, your systems stay portable, and nothing I build locks you into me.

Outside the studio I'm co-chair of the North Tabor Neighborhood Association, which is how I ended up building a yard sale map three neighborhoods now use.

Let's talk about what your business needs.

A free 20-minute call. I'll tell you honestly whether I'm the right fit, and point you elsewhere if I'm not.
